Debut album: dreamers
G.SMITH AND THE BAD DREAMERS, THE LATEST PROJECT FROM THE WEAKERTHANS’ BASS PLAYER GREG SMITH, RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM ENTITLED “DREAMERS” APRIL 13, 2014.
The 11 songs on the remarkable debut G. Smith and The Bad Dreamers album Dreamers were written while Greg Smith was recording and touring with his other band, The Weakerthans. These songs evoke the strange rythmn of writing, recording and touring. They reveal the gossamer nature of memory and the profound epiphanies that occur when one embraces the challenge of new people and new situations. They are gospel tunes espousing the wonder of waking up in the morning and refusing to go to bed at night.
The Bad Dreamers all grew up in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada.
They came together in 2011 to play some gigs supporting Greg Smith’s last release –The Northern Elation. He put that record out under the name Greg Smith Sounds.
Bry Webb –
“Although The Northern Elation features some decidedly roots-y instrumentation along with synths and psyche-guitar effects, the album keeps taking me back to an awesomely strange era in punk rock history, namely, SST records in the mid-80s. This was a period when all of the standardized sounds of punk were being set aside in favour of unlimited creative fun.”
Greg asked Aaron and Justin and J. J. to be a band after they first asked him to be a band. Beauty. While gigging The Northern Elation record they decided to be a band called G. Smith and The Bad Dreamers.
G.Smith and The Bad Dreamers will be gigging throughout 2014.
They plan to see you soon.
